The other day we drove out to the Gulf of Mexico at Celestun to go for a boat ride in the mangroves, see flamingos and eat shrimp.   The flamingos were mostly gone, they were there the week before in the hundreds of thousands but left after the rain.  Turns out, when it rains the water clouds and is stained a dark red from the red mangroves and the flamingos can’t see the crocodiles who prey on them so they leave for clearer water.  There were about a dozen hanging around but the teeming masses had gone.    It was still a good trip, I’m happy just riding around in a boat almost anywhere.

The shrimp did not disappoint us, neither did the cold beer! We set up at a restaurant on the beach for beer and shrimp. They were taking down a huge palapa roof next door so we had an added side show. They cut the supports most of the way around, got the chain saw stuck in one, got it unstuck, cut one more brace and slooooowly… down it came. It was a perfect demolition.

After the demolition show, the food came, more beer, souvenir shopping, a swim, and the sunset finale.
