things that are blooming today
This is a water lily named Foxfire hybridized by my virtual friend Craig Presnell in Florida. Getting one of Craig’s lilies from Fernando Molina was a great joy for me. Fernando also helped me a lot in putting together the pond. He was involved in the installation of the incredible Aquaparque and is available to put in ponds and lilies here in Mérida.
This is another famous water lily hybrid named Wood’s Blue Goddess. She’s another beauty that I got from Fernando. This is a 3rd day bloom.
This is one of the Canna’s in the outside pond. They are all doing really well with their roots a foot under water.
I believe this is a type of Tolumnia Orchid, I don’t know which one. I have it on a piece of wood on the terrace. They bloom in long sprays of tiny blooms, exquisite in their detail.
Not really a bloom but as splashy as one. This is the Coleus outside the guest room on the terrace. It is in full sun much of the day and wilts at times but it has the most incredible colors.
Also not a bloom but as pretty as one. This is Bob the Betta in his pot on the terrace off our bedroom. I was worried that he would get too bored alone most of the day so I put a mirror in for about an hour most days. He flares and parades and shows that other fish how gorgeous he is. He has figured out that there are really two of them, he swims along the back of the mirror and shows off for that one too.
This is Bob’s world.

Your photos are beautiful! I love them all but the Tolumnia one is fantastic. And Bob is beautiful as well! I once had a betta named Fishie (aren’t I creative). We used to take him camping with us.
Gorgeous….really outstanding….
Incredible!!! They are all beautiful but my favorite of these is the Coleus. I so admire anyone who has a green thumb.
Thanks for sharing these.
WOW – those beauties are worth enduring some heat!
The orchids are now my desktop photo….thanks for such great photos.
Spectacular photos! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing a bit of your world. I live in a dusty, arid city in Honduras. I can’t wait to get out of this apartment and grow stuff. I love the post!
Very pretty.
Jonna Love that you gave Bob your betta a mirror friend… too cool. Your flowers and plants are beautiful.
Beautiful flowers and great photos!
Jonna, haven’t been in touch since making an offer on a house on 57, but am in Santa Fe, NM, and met a woman who said she and her partner live wherever their RV is. I asked her about that, and mentioned you two. She said, “You mean Jonna?” Susan and Ann say ‘hi’ … seems you all met about 4 years ago in the Midwest and have the same RVs … small world, no? I’ll give her your blog address!
Thanks for the compliments on the pics. I’m trying to take some pictures every week of what is blooming or looking nice. It will also help me to remember how things have grown and what season they look good.
Sharon, hi! Of course I do remember Susan and Ann, if you see them again tell them hello from Mimi and I. It is a small, small world really.
what kind of camera do you have? those flower pictures are awesome. i’m surprised the coleus can take so much sun. i have a similar one and the leaves curled when it was outside. i brought it in and it is doing better, the leaves look normal now.
hope your dive friend is doing better. it is a miracle he survived. if not for friends, he might not be around today.

Teresa, I have a Panasonic FZ30, it’s a couple years old. It’s plenty for my skill level but it isn’t a DSLR. It has a 12x zoom which I could use more if I had a better tripod and it has the anti-jitter software that helps me use the zoom at all. I like that feature, I have it in a pair of binoculars as well and it really works. I sometimes play with the curves or levels a bit in photoshop, mostly with the fish in water pics.
The coleus wilts a bit every afternoon in the sun but it bounces back when the sun moves on. I think the sun is why it has such rusty colors, which I really like. It’s getting so large now that it keeps falling over, I’ve got it staked and hope it will stay until after my son’s visit this week. It sits outside the guest room and adds so much to the entry. After he leaves I think I’ll have to cut it back. It also is infested with white flies that I have to do something about.
Our dive friend had a down turn but they have now moved him to a private hospital and I think they are going to medivac him to the US later this week. He has a long road to recovery and a lot of life changes but he’s awake and alert and aware, what he does now is up to him. At least he is stable enough to be moved and taken back to the US near his family.
I love Bob’s world. Too cute!
