Blogs I Read

I guess I bugged out

just a bug on a leaf

just a bug on a leaf

I’m so sorry that I’ve worried some of you, that wasn’t my intention. I just needed an internet break and some time to heal. I felt that I was spending much too much time glued to a computer screen and that I needed to be out and about and get more done. I can’t say that it worked completely, most of the stuff that I really need to do is still undone. I did get out and about more and I’m a lot more active.

My mouth took this whole month to heal enough for the new dentist to do anything to it. Yesterday he opened it up again and removed two rather large pieces of tooth that the previous dentist left behind. He also put in some bone powder, odd stuff but it was also used when I had my implants to increase the bone mass. This time, the dentist took some of my blood and made what he called a gelatin and added that with the powdered bone. He wants my jaw bone to grow and recover from the scraping and injuries. It was a pain free experience and I am not in pain today either. I’m relieved, I’ll admit I was scared silly to go in there yesterday and start this all again. In another month he will put in 2 posts and then I can get the crowns.

I haven’t even read any blogs this month, barely glanced at my email inbox and only started looking at my usual forums yesterday. I find myself wondering what is happening in your lives and then I realize that I don’t know because I am not online reading. I was over at Debi and Tom’s the other day and asked her about Holbox and she said ‘well, it was all on my blog’ and I kind of felt bad that I haven’t read it. I’ll get to all of them I suppose but if you are wondering why I haven’t answered an email or commented on your blog, that’s the reason.

I have been visiting friends more, planting cuttings I’ve gotten from friends, playing with the fish, going to the main mercado a couple times a week, and sleeping a lot. Also, it is now officially quite HOT here in Merida and also very humid. We still do not have AC and I think that is taking a toll as well. I just don’t have much energy and there have been a few nights when it was really difficult to sleep. I feel like we’ve made it to September we should spend the money on something besides AC now but it still seems to be getting hotter.

I’m not sure where this blog should go, it’s difficult to describe what it is now that we are not traveling and not renovating a house. I’m at a loss a bit myself as well, not sure where I am going either. I know I need to have more balance between ‘real life’ and ‘virtual life’ but I’m not sure where that balance is or how to get there. Cold turkey was not satisfactory, I missed all of you and my life felt half empty. You’d think I’d have a lot more time since I don’t work but I’m finding it difficult to get all those normal life chores done. As my nurse friend used to say “how are your ADL’s?” ADL meaning Activities of Daily Living, and I’m way behind on all of mine. I do brush my teeth and take my vitamins, and I paid the internet bill yesterday so the important stuff is getting done. Just don’t ask me about my taxes, OK?

  • GREAT photo! Good grief, I looked at what the temp is there and CANNOT believe you are living in 102 with heat index of 112 without airconditioning. NO wonder you don’t feel like doing anything. How could you? Holy moly.

Go sleep at the movie theater or something? I’ve missed seeing your writings……….

  • I missed you, glad you were just taking a break. I think I am in sort of the same place you are, trying to figure out what Blog 2.0 will be. Congrats on making it through the dentist appointment, that is quite an accomplishment.

(Maybe it is time to get the RV out, take a cool break in the Oaxaca hills and then come to Mazatlan for a visit!)

  • 1. I am just happy to have you back.
    2. I think the rest of us are going through the “what do I blog on now>” syndrome. Whatever our colleagues write, I usually find interesting because they are a diverse and interesting group.
    3. Dentisry, wherever it is found, is simply a step above torture. You are a brave woman.

  • Jonna, so glad you’re back, love reading your posts. Steve pretty well said it all, and I totally understand the ‘what do I blog on now’. . . I think the truth is we don’t really care – as long as you just keep blogging!

  • Missed you Jonna. I considered stopping my Blog after we got home from Mexico in April but John Calypso talked me into keeping it going. I have gotten into it and it is fun trying to find something to talk about every day or two. It will be easier once we are back on the road at the end of October.

I am glad your teeth problem is getting taken care of. There is nothing quite so shitty as bad teeth. They hurt all the time and it is a leading cause of depression. Norma got full implants, top and bottom, up here in Canada a few years ago and it cost us a good percentage of our savings but now it is done.

Take care and we will see you in Merida to take you and Mimi up on that offer to see your house!

  • Hi Jonna!
Please keep posting. Your friends want to know what you are doing. Simply tell what is going on in your life. Your friends will like that!

    Su amigo,

  • Jonna, so glad to see you are okay. I think we all hit that wall from time to time about blogging. There are times when I feel I’m just posting something to post something but other times when I feel good about what I write. So just jog along for a while, I think your blogger will show up again. BTW very nice picture.

  • Glad to see you back. Hope Mimi is doing better too. I really, really understand about the blog. I am so sick about blogging about the island that I could puke. I’m not sure what I am going to do.

  • We missed you Jonna. Nice picture. Sherry

  • It the lack of rain for sure. I am gung ho all morning then poop out after lunch. The plants that I got on our little spree are doing well. I seem to have kept your trowel, that’s what happens to me, I set stuff down and forget it.
My blog is also feeling blah. I blame the weather!!
    regards,
    Theresa

  • Thanks for the update. I too hate the dentist and your experience doesn’t help me to feel better about going! Maybe you should do all of us here in Merida a service by telling us who we should not go to?

I am feeling very blah about blogging these days also. It seems like everyone else is also. Maybe the cooler weather, whenever it gets here, will help.

Glad to hear you are doing better. Pete

  • Like the rest – it is good to see you back in print. I seem to always have 3000 words in an 800 word world – I have slowed down entries because of Global Post’s method of posting blog entries – so a couple a week instead of 5 for 7.

Even small talk is good for us ro know you are OK, and yes even dental discourse.

Primero: I’m so glad you’re on the mend.
Secundo: You estimate what’s your balance, you decide how you cut your pie. I’m just happy to e’klatch on your interesting days.
Tercero: Read Terry Pratchett, he’ll provide a wonderful diversion.

  • Glad to hear all is well. A horrible toothache with intense heat and humidity sounds like an awful mix. Your blog is great fun, thanks for sharing. Linda

Glad to hear you are doing better..you were missed….as for the heat…it does seem to be getting hotter…hoping this will break in a few weeks and have some fall temps.

Missed you, and glad you are back. I used to hate the dentist, finally found one that is truly painless. He numbs the gum before he inserts the needle, then he gives me more than enough to be sure I have no pain. He waits until the mouth is fully numbed before starting work. The only side effect is my mouth may be numb for a couple of hours after the visit. It feels funny drinking from a glass when half your mouth is numb…..

I love that picture! Lighting is perfect, and everything is sharp. Can you tell us more? Camera? flash? zoom out? tripod? Was that your water lily?

I really look forward to your blog (came out blob the first time). If you are going to take a sabbatical, please let us know in advance. A lot of us did worry about what had happened, especially after such a downer for your last post……….

About the heat. I have a house in Sedona which does not have a/c. There are several days a year where it is over 100. About four years ago I installed a Sears vertical a/c in a sliding window. Best thing I ever did. It can make the living room bearable on the hottest days, and isn’t too noisey. I realize your construction is non-standard, but if would easily fit between 2 studs. If you got one with remote control, you could fit in a wall up high, and at least have one room you could hole up in during the worst days. Just a thought. Cost was about $400, better than installing central cooling.

    Glad you are doing well.

Happy to know that you’re making progress with the dental issues, and even though I missed your blog entries, I’m thrilled that you made some time for “YOU.” Laying back, laying low, doing little or nothing is somethimes just what you need.

I’ll gladly pass along the “condo” rental info to anyone that I know who might be likely to want to stay a month or so.

Re: The Merida heat and humidity without AC. Perhaps you and Mimi might sleep in hammocks. Lying in a comfortable hammock in predampened light, loose clothing with a fan blowing on you might give you some relief. It’s the only thing that worked for me when I was in Merida some time back for a couple of incredibly hot, humid months.

Good luck with your relaxation, rental, and writing. Welcome back.

Oh, the insect in your photo is a type of “stinkbug” (Hemiptera) In some areas of Mexico, local stinkbugs called “jumiles” are eaten. I’ve seen them available in the Taxco mercado in late December early January. Really great photo!!!

    Hey Jonna,
Please keep blogging! I very much enjoy your writing and story telling. I don’t do much with computers and you don’t often hear from me but I love reading what you’re up to – yours is the only blog I read. I like to keep up with the interesting experiences you, Mimi and the “kids” are having. The photos are always good too. I loved one of Mimi’s, from a year or more ago, with the prickly pear catus heart.
I think of you gals often and with fondness.

  • Hi Rene!! Good to see you here. Hope you are doing well.

We do sleep in the hammocks at times and of course we have good fans. It is usually cool at night but occasionally these past few weeks it has been very humid. It’s almost always cool when I go to bed and cool after dawn in the morning but sometimes, just before dawn, I wake up sweating from the humidity. Not fun.

I am trying to catch up on some email that I ignored, hopefully I didn’t miss anything important. I’m really trying not to be such a flake, it’s been too easy to just ignore the world and only worry at night when I wake up from the heat ;)

Getting some resolution for the condo in Akumal is a start, finding the beginning of the ball of problems is the biggest thing.
