That's interesting about Vasquez, I read the wiki link. I've seen the institute of Mayan language, I think it is on 59 in Santiago. I wonder if that is the one that he started.

Theresa, it was spur of the moment and late in the afternoon. They were having an opening of photos from a school that evening, some were very nice.

I was curious about the bust shown in the photo. I'd never heard of Alfredo Barrera Vasquez (not surprising -- I've never heard of most of the folks whose faces are found on monuments throughout the city). Turns out he was an eminent anthropologist/linguist/Mayanist, who was involved in the development of a number of cultural/research institutions here.
Learn something new everyday -- thanks for the inspiration!

I tried to comment yesterday and couldn't.Ahem, So, you were one block from my house and didn't call!!! sniff!
It is a totally cute cafe, we stumbled upon it one Sunday (the only morning that it is open!).
BTW, I used to have a heavy duty Mexican juicer but whimped out and bought an eletric one, but I hardly ever make juice (I somehow always forget to do it),
regards,
