It finally hit me that we are driving away in a week and I need to get a lot of stuff organized and figure out what we’re doing. Ack!
It’s been close to 2 years since I’ve left México, that’s kind of odd actually. I think we crossed the border heading south in August of 2007 and we didn’t make our usual jaunt north last year.
One of the funny things is that I have a whole list of stuff I need to get before we go north. It occurred to me that I will need a supply of my medication because I can’t get it there without a huge hassle. I’ll need a supply of good coffee. I’ll probably get some Peet’s while I’m up there for old time’s sake and to see if it still tastes like I remember it. Still, I want several kilos of the good Chiapan beans to take with me. The dogs need their meds and we have to get their shots updated and their passports up to date. I call them their passports, it’s an international health booklet with their pictures and all their medical records. Actually, Cuba needs to get one and I think Tita does too. This will be the first trip to the US for both of them.
My list to go north is longer than my list of stuff to get while I’m up there. That’s a first. Most of what I have on the US shopping list are some kinds of fertilizer that I haven’t found here yet and benedryl spray and a type of dog vitamins that I prefer. Well, there’s my Amazon wish list too. That just grows and grows and now I’ll need to go through it and figure out what I’m no longer interested in and what I want to spend money on.
I need to make enough dog food to get us to the border but not across it as they probably won’t let me bring it in. I need to figure out what the bare minimum of household stuff is that I have to pack into the RV. You think it will be cold? I guess I better make sure I have my hot water bottle and the down comforter. Which reminds me, I might have to add a pair of Ugs to my NOB shopping list. My current ones are so worn out I walk kind of sideways in them. I’m sure some of you think I’m nuts but I’m sitting here right now typing in the kitchen with my sheepskin slippers on. But hey, it’s always 30°here! A new thermometer is on the US list too.
I wish I were more organized. I was never an ace at it but I was certainly better prepared and on top of things when I was working. This being retired is bad for the motivation.
Don’t forget to get your oil changed – A let less there than up there
We are still waiting for our truck to be repaired (it has been a month). Maybe we will see you and the family on the road.
Mimi does all our oil changes, so that one is on HER list. We’ve had synthetic oil in the RV since 1000 miles so she keeps track of it and does the changes.
Wouldn’t it be a hoot to see you guys on the road? Stranger things have happened, we used to run into friends all over the continent when we were fulltimers. Look for Tortuga, a green/white Lazy Daze, she has her name on the back and a mural of a beach on the front overhang.
Drive safely, have fun, do your businesses, come back safely… and this is not just 100% selfishness because I find the writing about your lives in the Yucatan so fascinating, but because I like, like a lot of people you’ve never met, the personalities that come through in your site. Yuzegyz are good stuff (I love that phrase – yuzegyz, kinda like “muddahere”, as in, “I’m going, I’muddahere”)…. I digress.
Your blog is great. Thank you for encouraging me with mine. I haven’t read all of your entries but I’m finding I am already a bit addicted to learning more about everyone. Take good care, Jan
You’ll get it all together, the pressure of a deadline will make it happen. And the beauty of retirement is that the deadline can be flexible (I am SO envious of anyone who is retired). It will be a busy week, hope everything falls into place for you without too much more stress.
I hope you’ll continue to blog. I have to admit that I’ve become addicted to your blog. Merida is so close and so different at the same time. Plus, I really love your “take” on things here!
I will blog as I can once we are on the road. This trip we are going very, very light. So, we won’t be taking our satellite internet dish and I’ll have to get creative finding some wireless hotspots to use.
Hey there, long time no see! We are in Missouri with “my new best friend” Sky! I’m always asking how the two of you are doing…and…when you might be seen, stateside?! Miss you both at Escapade and the Balloon Fiesta!
Last time we talked to Mimi, we were going to call while in port and have a drink but as you can tell, that didn’t happen. Maybe next time!
Take care, travel safe and maybe one day our paths will cross.
Until then, TTFN!
Kellie and Walt, too!
